View a 50 minute web presentation with audio by Margaret Joyal, M.A., on the effects of   Psychological Trauma. Joyal is the Director of Washington County Mental Health Services, and consultant and trainer for the Center for Crime Victim Services.

This learning opportunity is directed to Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Mental Health Care and other Medical Practitioners. Medical students are encouraged to attend.

Goals & Objectives

To understand:

  1. The significance of managing mental health needs in times of large-scale traumatic events.
  2. What a “Trauma Informed System" is.
  3. How traumatic events impact brain functioning in both the acute phase and the aftermath of trauma.

By the end of this conference, participants should be able to:

  1. List the four (4) Common Signs and Symptoms in reaction to trauma events.
  2. List the six (6) ways that traumatic events impact on the brain.
  3. List what works and what doesn't work in interacting with Trauma Survivors.
  4. Define the features of a Trauma Informed System.
